Google Ads

T
his week was a rough week for me due to a medical procedure. When I was able to get on my computer I felt like I struggled with focusing and actually learning anything. I was able to obtain some information this week and I will share them here to ensure I retain the information for the future.

It is time for our Google ad words to start. I had a hard time trying to come up with all the different options for my website without it being too generic. If I am not specific enough, I can get people clicking on my ad that do not apply. For example, I do machine embroidery but there is also hand embroidery. I have to make sure I don't get people clicking on my site that are looking for something different.

On the other hand, if my Google ad words are too specific, I won't get any clicks at all. Hopefully I find the happy balance between the two and am successful with driving traffic to my website.

As a side note, a few weeks ago while doing research for my business I found out that in order to have a fictitious name as my sole proprietorship business name I would have to register that name with the state. This can cost hundreds of dollars. To avoid this charge I can use my name within my business name and then I do not have to register it. So, I have changed my business name to Kelsey Davis Designs and am trying to rush and get all the work I did on my first site transferred over to a new site. It's kind of exhausting but if it can save me money I am sure it will be worth it.

Site Design

T his week I have been trying to think about design for my site. I find myself to be a crafty individual whom would have gone to school for interior design or architecture had it not been for the fact that I dislike school so much. I am also a little on the OCD side. Because of those things I find it hard to make decisions quickly. I have looked at different layouts, color choices, photo options, etc. and I just can't seem to decide. I know my design will change as I go along. The current color palette I have decided on may change once I get pictures of my product on my site. Actually, I am positive it will, but that is part of a business. Nothing comes out perfect the first time (except for the Savior)! I am learning as I go with creating a website and along with that will come "growing pains".  I liked learning about adding payment options as I will be selling a physical product on my site and I look forward to learning how to add additional things to my site throughou...

What type of business?

T his week we learned about affiliate and drop shipping as business options.  At first I couldn't figure out what all the hype was about on the affiliate marketing.  You place an affiliate link on your webpage to drive traffic to that affiliate.  When a customer purchases something from that affiliate through your link, you get a percentage of that sale.  I don't feel that I could ever have a popular enough site to drive enough traffic to that affiliate to make me a steady, constant revenue.  Yes, drop shipping also has its con's but I feel that if I had to choose between the two, it would be the option I chose.  Next week we have to choose a product for our website.  I have thought about expanding my Etsy business to a different platform, though at the same time I've been thinking a lot about slowing down on that business, or expanding to other product options.  I am having a tough time deciding which will be my final decision and I only hav...

Google Analytics

T his week we were able to connect our websites to Google Analytics. This will help us track the things such as the location from which our traffic came from (Google Ad, direct site, FaceBook, etc), as well as what pages were visited and how long the customer was on each page, as so one. I am excited to see the information that I am going to obtain from this and look forward to applying changes to my site to help best suit my customer. I also was able to work more on changing my website from Kelsey's Kreations to Kelsey Davis Designs. I look forward to running Google Ads next week and seeing the results from that as well.
